Expectations

I'm so happy to be writing today

With me starting a blog last year, it has been a lot. It has also been me living daily, and working and resting through each emotion and season that I have overcome and endured. I haven't posted in so long, but I hope to have gained enough wisdom and experience these past few months to be encouraged to keep pushing.

New years was an awkward time for me honestly, it was me in my bed, listening to the crackles of fireworks, praying that the year of 2023 will be the year that I completely give everything to God and let go of expectation.

Expectations of society, and expectations of the people around me

And even expectations that I have pertaining to  myself.

There are times where people may impose their thoughts on you, and what they may think the best route is for you, but it's up to you to have faith in God, and to listen to where he is telling you to go. As you are moving in obedience, the route that God has you on may turn a few heads, it may even cause a lot of people to think you are crazy, but as long as you are in alignment with what God has told you, their comments will not penetrate you as long as you keep having faith, and know that God will bless you in due time.

With myself, to be transparent, there are times where I create a timeline, or set a date on God which was not for that exact time, but in my expectations out of frustration and impatience what I had “hoped'' for to happen didn't AT THAT TIME which leads to hope deferred. And I know, we are human, it's okay to feel, just don't let emotions cloud the journey that the Lord has you on. Hope deferred has led me to be discouraged out of my own foolishness and lack of surrender to God.  It's so important, friend, to bring your vision, your desires, your heart, your expectations, your life, your work to the Lord in order for Him to give you clarity and a timeline according to His will for your life.

And most importantly, it's vital to remember God's character in this journey, he would never leave you nor forsake you, I always try to embody the faith that Paul talked about in Romans, the unwavering faith that knew that God will do what he said he would do. He would never go back on his word. He is not a man that he should lie!

Remember who God is, he is a very present help in trouble, he loves you more than you would ever imagine.

Some scriptures that you should ponder on pertaining to this word

  • Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: And he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: For the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

  • Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

  • Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

  • Romans 4:16-21 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.”[a] He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

  • 18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”[b] 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

  • Psalm 46: God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in the time of trouble.

Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act?  Does he promise and not fulfill?
